Why are dredge pumps in New South Wales being dredged to the surface?

The Queensland Government is working on a plan to dredge up to 1.5 million cubic metres of dredge in an area of Queensland where more than half of the state’s coastal waters are at risk of becoming polluted by the construction of the Carmichael mine.

The dredging will be done in an effort to keep the water in the Great Barrier Reef in good condition.

But the Queensland Government says that is not the plan.
