Why Trump is building the Dakota Access Pipeline and why the rest of the world is paying attention

President Donald Trump is moving ahead with construction of a $3.8 billion oil pipeline across the Missouri River that will transport crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois.

The move comes after a court ordered a halt to construction of the $3 billion project in August.

The pipeline, which would carry the same amount of crude as the Keystone XL pipeline, would run from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota through South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois.
